Good Morning, Denmark

First off, congratulations are in order. Denmark is now the official NUMBER TWO 7-Day Weekend reading country in the entire world, with 91 views already in the past 3 days. Thanks for being great, Denmark, keep up the good work, and you shall be rewarded.

To return the favor of Denmark promoting the Weekend, I will now promote Denmark by giving you, our loyal readers, some interesting facts about the country, straight from DenmarkFacts.com.

Climate: Windy winters and cool summers, temperate, humid and overcast; mild.

In 1989 Denmark become the very first European country to legalize same-sex marriages and offer for gay partnership the same rights as for heterosexual couples.

Lars Ulrich ( One of founders of Metallica ) was born in Denmark. This facts is interesting, because in whole history only two famous performers of heavy metal were ever born in Denmark: King Diamond and Ulrich himself.

Stroget in Copenhagen is one of the longest shopping street in whole Europe.

Among other things Danish people have invented the widely known children playthings LEGO. LEGO started to produce toys in 1932. The really interesting fact , for the more than sixty years was sold over 320 billion units of LEGO bricks all around the Globe. If we make very simple calculation we found out that every human being in the world is owner of about 56 LEGO bricks.

This Weekend's Poll Winner

Here's an old promo from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia." this weekend's poll winner. Awesome show, and Ben's and my personal favorite to win. Good work, team.

Thank You Denmark!

In the rich history of this blog, which was conceived about a year and a half ago, we have strived to reach all fan bases, and people of all different interests. What we didn't expect was to reach different countries. So far, the blog has been viewed in the US, Canada, Germany, the UK, Russia, Turks and Caicos Islands, and China.

But the most surprising thus far, has been almost hitting the century mark in the wonderful country of Denmark.

If you're down to visit our bronze medal blogviewing country, check this site out. But if not, just enjoy some of the Danish scenery.

Plans For Expansion

No, this has nothing to do with the greatest computer game of all time. But we figure we're doing pretty good here at The Weekend, and we're ready to drop the ".blogspot" and get ourselves a domain name and everything.

Keep an eye out for some changes around the blog. Trust us, things are only going to get better. If you want to know more about random stuff we're doing in our daily lives, because people seem to be really into that sort of thing, then we just set up a Twitter for you.

www.twitter.com/7dayweekendguys

We'll keep you guys updated, and hopefully you'll follow us even further down the road.

And here's a video of the intro to "Diddy Kong Racing." You love it...

I Miss Hockey

I miss hockey like a pregnant teenage misses her period. Those refs must've felt like rodeo clowns at a rodeo gone horribly wrong. Donald Brashear getting things start...Everyone else getting them finished. That's what hockey is all about. Mark Recchi getting in on the action a few times, gotta love it.

The Newest Celtic

This is probably the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Diesel Train is pulling into North Station.

Shaquille O'Neal signed a deal with the Boston Celtics. So what questions remain? How will Shaq be used on the team? How will he fit in with the team chemistry? And most importantly...What is his new nickname going to be? In honor of this, I present another video. The Top 10 Best Shaq Quotes.

Shark Week

No, its not a trick. Today is the first official day of Shark Week on Discovery Channel, the best week of the year. Obviously I'm a huge fan of the week, but it seems to me that over the past few years, they're just running out of things to talk about or teach us. I'm not marine biologist, but in the past few years, I'm pretty sure I've learned the ins and outs of at least 13 different species of sharks.

As long as they show great whites jumping out of the ocean with a seal in its mouth, or hammerhead sharks destroying anything in their path, you can count me in for the full week of entertainment.

Hot v. Not: Summer 2010 Edition

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Don't call it a comeback. After an unannounced, unplanned, and probably unnoticed hiatus, I have returned to the Weekend to bring a little firepower with Jon out of town. Keep your eyes peeled for more posts from me in the future... I'd like to think I bring a little pizazz to the table.

Without further ado... here is your Hot v. Not for the sweltering summer of 2010. Look no further for advice on how to stay cool, pun intended.

Donkey Kong Is My Homeboy

Now, you could be reading this blog for one of many reasons. But personally, there are some days I'll check it out for myself and read through some stuff, find some old videos for a little pick-me-up.

This video right here has been an inspiration to me ever since it came out at whatever that huge video game nerd conference is called. This was my childhood, through my high school career, and even into my freshman year at college. A lot of people played Super Mario, and the weird kids plays Metroid and stuff like that, but not me and my brother. Donkey Kong all day. FINALLY, coming out with a new Donkey Kong some time this fall, I don't think I could be more pumped.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy this glorious video game trailer.

What A Day

What a day in the world of baseball. 3 walk-off hits, 3 home runs by the best hitter in baseball, 14 strikeouts by a Tiger, a hit streak extended to 54 games, and the best pitcher in baseball getting even better.

Ryan Zimmerman hit his 100th career home run, and it looked like the Washington Nationals were poised to take the series from the San Diego Padres (who were wearing the best looking jerseys in all of sports). In the 11th inning, Nats' second baseman Adam Kennedy fired a ball into the Padres' dugout, allowing Lance Zawadzki to advance to second base, opening the door for pinch-hitter, Nick Hundley. He smacked a 2-2 pitch into left, scoring Zawadzki for the game winner.

Coming just a day after the bizarre ankle injury during Kendry Morales' walk-off celebration, Howard Kendrick was able to provide some more fireworks out in Anaheim. Trailing 7-3 after 5 innings to the Seattle Mariners, the Los Angeles Angels mounted an impressive comeback, capped by Kendrick's 3-run walk-off blast to give them the victory, 9-7.

A real see-saw match out by the Bay between the San Fransisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks was ended by Andres Torres' RBI single in the 10th frame. Torres went 4-6 in the game, and helped give Arizona their seventh loss in a row.

He's back. After a rough power shortage, Albert Pujols has been re-charged. Hitting two home runs in 97 at-bats in all of May, three more on the last day was a good way to end it. He scored four runs in his fourth career three-homer game. The St. Louis Cardinals housed the Chicago Cubs yesterday afternoon, 9-1.

Max Scherzer, fresh off the plane from Triple-A Toledo pitched a career high 14 Ks for the Detroit Tigers against the Oakland Athletics. Even with the two perfect games, 14 strikeouts is where the bar is now set.

Another dominating performance came out of Boston this afternoon. The best pitcher in baseball, Jon Lester was in true from again for the Red Sox against the Kansas City Royals. Lester won his sixth start in a row, giving the home team 7 innings, and allowing 4 hits and a run while striking out 5. David Ortiz also homered for the 10th time this month in the 8-1 Sox victory.

If there were a College Baseball Fantasy League, whoever owned Garrett Wittels would be cleaning house. With another two hits today, Wittels increased his streak to 54 straight games. Wittels is only a sophomore at Florida International University.

You Need These...

This blog is way too small time for plugs and advertisements, but I figure it really can't hurt to throw a few words out.

If we have any soccer, or football, fans out there, then my buddy Jackson just started up his old blog titled, The Wrong Side of the Atlantic. He used to work for the Weekend, but has gone on to lesser, but probably better things. Check it out. Now.

If you're a music guy like myself, then you're going to want to get some Bonfire Blue in your life. The band is made up of the man, the myth, and the legend...Chris Conway. He started out in a band Tag & Release, put out some songs under his solo/full name, Christopher Conway, and now goes by the name of Bonfire Blue. If you're looking for some solid indie, or just solid music in general, then look no further, boys and girls. You're welcome.

Na Na Na Na, Hey, Hey, Hey...

I don't mean to offend anyone, but if you think you stand a chance against UConn Women's Basketball, then Robert Downey, Jr. clearly should've mentioned you at some point in this clip.

Two games down in the NCAA tournament, against the #16 seed and the #8 seed. Total margin of victory? 110 points. 78 straight wins. Do I need to keep going?

Nope.

Music History

I was in West Virginia the past week, so my bad for not posting. But I was flipping around the iTunes and 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls, and then remembered the most epic live performance in music history...

How Did I Just Find Out About This....

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you 'Axe Cop.' While this looks like the work of any experienced comic, it is actually far from it. These stories are produced by a family business. And that family happens to be made up of a 5-year old and his 29-year old brother.

If you can find me a more entertaining comic book, bring it to me immediately. I've never been big into comics, but look at the lineup for this first episode and tell me what there's not to like: axes, cops, flutes, dinosaurs, dinosaur heads, and ultimately the unstoppable duo of Axe Cop and Dinosaur Soldier. I bet at this point you're wondering what roles the two brothers have in this. Well, Malachai (the 5-year old) is the writer and creator of the episodes. Maybe his spelling is cleaned up a little, but that dialogue comes straight from the little guy's noggin. His brother Ethan does all the drawing, and together, this powerhouse duo makes Michaelangelo look like a chump.

There are a few more episode up on their site, so I'll definitely be writing about this more. And for those of you who can't read the episode at the top, here's a bigger image.
